Vithya Arasu

Vithya Arasu is an eminent Bharatanatyam, Bharatanrityam and an Odissi performer , teacher and a choreographer, holding a Bachelors and a Master degree in Fine Arts and has worked as an Assistant Professor for dance for 3 years at Dr. MGR Janaki College , Chennai. She has also worked as an Assistant Professor at Sastra University for Bachelors of Fine Arts. She has received her formal training in Nritta Karanas of Natyasastra under Guru. Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Guru. Dr. Gayatri Kannan and Guru.Smt. Uma Sriram. She also has an experience of teaching Bharatanrityam in Guru. Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam’s institution ‘Nrithyodaya’ for 5 years. She is a part of Guru. Dr.Padma Subrahmanyam’s productions since, 2013 and has extensively travelled with her for performances in India and abroad. She has the honour of assisting her Guru for workshops conducted in India and Srilanka.

She has also been receiving training in Mayurbhanj Chhau under Guru. Rakesh Sai Babu , Kandyan under Guru. Shamitha Hettige and Odissi under her dear friend Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi. She has a privilege of getting trained under eminent gurus of each style. She has initially received her training in Odissi from Guru Kanchana and then learnt from Guru. Surupa Sen, Nrityagram and Guru. Bijayini Sathpathy. She has also received her training in Mohiniattam under Guru. Vichitra Dinakaran and has learnt the basics of Vilasini Natyam under Guru. Purva Dhanashree , basics of Kathak under Barkha Patel and Eshani Sathe, basics of Kalari from Kalarigram, Pondicherry. She has also learnt Balinese Dance piece called Thari pendat from Putri Hakindon and Ayu Nareswari from Citrakanahita.

She has performed and demonstrated Odissi and Mohiniattam as part of Karanas Decoded session, showing the basis of Natyasastra in each style at the 38th Natya Kala Conference and at the Natyasastra Utsav conducted by BIFAC (Bharata Ilango Foundation for Asian Culture), Sangeet Natak Academy and Kalakshetra in their prestigious venue. She has also demonstrated Yoga and Karanas for the ‘Yoga Parv’ under the topic ‘Yoga and Dance’ organised by the Sangeet Natak Academy at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. She has the privilege of presenting her lecture demonstration on the topic “Angika Abhinaya - Body movements as prescribed in the Natyasastra “ for Natya Gati Utsav at The Sangeet Natak Academy.

Recently she was awarded by Bharat Kalachar with the “Yuva Kala Bharati”

She has performed for many prestigious festivals in India.
