What is The Sunlit Path?

The path of struggle and hard work was the only one I had known, even after I left the worldly pursuit for more spiritual and artistic ones. I played by the rules sincerely and it left me unsatisfied and spent.

It was my breath that taught me another way. I started to see that the ascension, the inhalation, the striving upward was not balanced by the descension, the exhalation, the ease of the letting go and receiving. I started to notice the moments of effortless flow, value it and build on it. I started to pray and ask for guidance. I started to wait and be led. I started to have faith and surrender.

One day the year before last when I moved to Auroville, my sister shared with me The Mother’s words about an approach she had named The Sunlit Path— a spontaneous, grace-filled path rather than one of tension and strain. It felt like a beautiful crystallisation of an important truth I had learnt the hard way.

Early last year, a nice place for rent came to me without looking. And late last year as I was falling asleep one night, the name Sunlit Path came to me without thinking. With both the place and the name, it felt like I was begin led.

The intention at the soon-to-be-open centre is to offer a space for us to walk the sunlit path together aided by the wisdom and grace of the Indian classical art forms and healing systems.
